Overview

The Payroll Clerk at TXODDS in Chicago plays a crucial role in maintaining the accuracy, efficiency, and compliance of the company’s payroll and accounting functions. This position will collaborate closely with accounting firms, as well as internal stakeholders, to ensure seamless payroll operations and financial reporting. 

This role is responsible for overseeing weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly payroll processes, ensuring all calculations are accurate, timely, and compliant with state and city tax regulations. Additionally, the Payroll Clerk will act as a financial detective, proactively identifying and resolving discrepancies to prevent errors and inefficiencies.

What you'll do

• Oversee weekly independent contractor payments, ensuring accurate processing and proper documentation in both Excel and the internal back office, in coordination with new accounting stakeholders.

• Oversee bi-weekly payroll, ensuring timely submission and accurate deductions.

• Oversee monthly payroll, ensuring accurate deductions, including 401(k) and healthcare benefits administration, where applicable.

• Maintain compliance with U.S. labor laws and payroll tax regulations, with the People & Culture Department.

• Assist with tax compliance, including TIN matching, W-9 processing, independent contractor agreements, and ACH authorizations.

• Ensure accurate financial reporting, including payroll reports.

• Investigate and mitigate financial discrepancies by analyzing payroll and accounting data, identifying gaps, and proactively resolving issues to ensure accuracy and compliance—thinking like a financial detective.

Nice to have

• Experience with payroll software and accounting platforms (e.g., Xero, ADP, or similar).
  
• Familiarity with multi-state payroll tax regulations and compliance.
• Accounting background and at least an associate's degree in a related field.
• Experience solving employee and contractor inquiries related to payroll.
• Knowledge of the sports industry, including experience with ticket purchasing, reimbursements, and expense tracking.
